Octiles is one of Kadon's oldest and best-selling games. It's for 2-4 players, but probably best with 2. Each player starts with 5 counters, which they are trying to get to the other side of the board. However, at the beginning of the game there are no paths across the board. Instead there is a stock of 18 octagonal tiles with various paths joining their faces. Each turn, a player may add a tile to the playing area, or move a piece; once all the spaces on the board are occupied (17 spaces), a player also has the option of swapping a tile on the board for the remaining tile, or rotating a tile in play.
The tiles in this game are absolutely beautiful; laser-cut maple, with a lovely smooth finish. The game itself is challenging, with plenty of opportunities for offensive and defensive play, but has a tendency to lock up in the centre of the board with four players.
